Perlite Concrete Application
Perlite concrete aggregate combined with Portland cement, air entraining agent, and water produces an ultra lightweight concrete that is used for insulating roof decks and lightweight floor fills, insulating structural rood decks, curtain wall systems and for a variety of permanent insulating applications. An air-entraining agent is used to improve the workability and to control water content and insulation value. Perlite concrete may be more accurately defined as concrete containing a minimum of 20 cubic feet of perlite concrete aggregate per cubic yard.
Perlite Concrete Processing Operation
Crude perlite expanded for used as a concrete aggregate ranges from 16 mesh to 100 mesh. Crude perlite is mined using open-pit methods and then is moved to the plant site where it is stockpiled. The first processing step is to reduce the perlite ore to approximately 1.6 cm in a primary jaw crusher.
The crude ore is then passed through a rotary dryer, which reduces the moisture content from bet ween 4 and 10 percent to less than 1 percent. After drying, secondary grinding takes place in a closed-circuit system using screens, air classifiers, hammer mills, and rod mills. Oversized material produced from the secondary circuit is returned to the primary crusher.
Perlite Concrete Processing Plant
In perlite concrete productin process, the crude perlite ore is mined, crushed, dried in a rotary dryer, ground, screened, and shipped to expansion plants. Horizontal rotary or vertical stationary expansion furnaces are used to expand the processed perlite ore.
